3 Signs of Something Wrong With Your Car

Car problems can happen anywhere, at any time. Your car does not care if you’re in a hurry – it could break down when you’re on your way to work or rushing to your kid’s soccer game. Preventive maintenance is the best way to avoid untimely breakdowns. Inspect your car regularly for signs of something wrong. You may be able to catch a problem before it causes vehicle failure.

Fluid Leaks

Your vehicle leaking fluids could be a sign of a serious issue. Look at the ground beneath your car for fluids. The color of the fluid can determine the source of the problem. If it’s leaking red or amber fluid, for example, it could be a sign of a hydraulic fluid leak – possibly from your brakes or driveshaft. Fixing the problem could be as simple as replacing deteriorated hydraulic cylinder seals and O rings in your car, or you may need more extensive repairs.

Strange Noises

Drive with the windows down and without the radio on to listen to your engine. It should run smoothly and without any alarming noises. If you hear clattering, sputtering, grinding or other weird engine noises, take your car to a mechanic for a diagnosis. Strange sounds could point to a variety of different issues with your engine, power steering system, water pump, crankshaft, starter or another part.

Smoke Under the Hood

Smoking is typically not a good sign when it comes to your vehicle. Smoke beneath the hood could mean your vehicle is overheating. Pull the car over immediately in this case, as driving an overheated vehicle could permanently damage the engine. Add water or coolant to the engine to bring down the temperature. Then, drive to an auto shop for further repairs.

Don’t ignore the signs of a car problem in the hopes that it will go away. Instead, act as soon as you see a red flag to prevent breakdowns and avoid expensive repairs.
